Exercise Machines for Home Fitness
Exercise machines come in all shapes and sizes. From treadmills to exercise balls. There is a huge range of choice available, much of it to suit your pocket and circumstances. What is critical though, is choosing the right exercise machine for your needs.
Buying Exercise Machines - What is your Home Fitness Goal?
What do you want your exercise machines for? What are you trying to achieve? For example, are you trying to lose weight? Do you need a cardio vascular work out, or do you want to develop strength? If so, which area of your body do you want your exercise machines to help you strengthen?
What about space limitations at home?
All of these are critical questions, which should help you focus your attention on the exercise machines that are right for you.
You should also take into account your current fitness levels. Are you weak in a particular area? Do you have a bad back for example. You should not choose exercise machines for which the natural position of usage would exacerbate an existing injury. If you have weak knees for example, then an exercise bike may not be suitable for you.
Exercise Bikes
Exercise bikes are one of the oldest form of home exercise equipment. Science has moved on with them, as it does with most exercise machines, and there is a wide variety of exercise bikes available. Even the cheapest exercise bikes available will have some sort of programming on board, and you should be able to tailor the machine to meet your needs. In their simplest form, you can choose to ride for long distances with minimal resitance, or increase resitence to help strengthen you legs. Comfort can be an issue with them, so you would be well advised to try some out either in a gym or in an exercise equipment shop to see how comfortable the seat is. If you are planning on buying a bike for the whole family to use, then ease of adjustment should also be a consideration.
Treadmills
With some 45 million people using treadmills around the world, they are a popular choice for home fitness exercise machines. Treadmills have become very sophisticated, and with the computerised features that many of them possess, this can be reflected in the price. They offer good cardio vascular work outs, as well as good strength training courtesy of the adjustable resitances they offer.
If running is your thing, then they offer an all weather alternative to the roads, but with much more limited chances of injury than running outdoors.
Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers provide similar benefits to treadmills, whilst reducing the impact on joints. If you suffer from weak knees or hips for example, then an elliptical trainer could be beneficial for you. However, serious athletes may prefer equipment which delivers more radical results in terms of strengthening or cardio vascular training.
Conclusion
There are many other types of home fitness machines, ranging from rowing machines to home gyms. One problem to consider with home gyms for example, is the amount of space that they will take up.
I think that it is important that you identify early on what it is exactly that you want to achieve with your home fitness program, and that your purchase fulfils this requirement. You would be well advised to visit a local gym and talk with the instructors. Try out some of the machines. I think that you will soon find out which machine will be best for you.
