Exercises to strengthen lower abdomen and back are important and necessary

As goes the health of your back, so goes the health of your stomach, many health experts will warn. There is no coincidence that many of the people suffering from pain in their lower back probably have a bulging gut instead of an opposing abdominal muscle group that is anywhere near being in descent shape.

Exercises to strengthen the lower abdomen are a plenty. One of the simplest ones of these exercises is the leg lift. To do this, one must lie with their back flat on the ground and their legs straight. Then lift your both of your heels, while holding them together, twelve inches off the ground. Hold for a few seconds and repeat several times.

This lower abdominal exercise can be coupled with a lower back exercise to help you strengthen both opposing muscles, perhaps freeing you from back pain. One of the most popular lower back exercises is the back extension. In this exercise a person lies on the floor, face down. They clasp their hands together behind their head then lift their chest as high as they can, holding for a few seconds at the highest point, then repeating as often as necessary. This will work the lower back muscle.

Prior to starting lower back exercises, some will say that it is advisable to consult with a physician or back specialist to see which exercises are safe and appropriate for you. Many back specialists will argue that certain lower back exercises are unsafe and dangerous, perhaps causing more harm than good. Lower abdominal exercises are likely to be debated as to their efficacy and safety as well. But it is probably easier to find fast and safe ones as well.

While health specialists may seem divided on which lower back and abdominal exercises are safe and which aren't, most are united on the belief that making sure both opposing muscle groups are healthy is important.
